From master carpenter to kitchen revolutionary
Willi Bruckbauer is the heart of BORA: visionary, creative mind and driving force behind the pioneering cooktop extractor systems. With more than 20 years' experience in the kitchen industry, the trained master carpenter knows what is important in a modern kitchen: creating a living space that meets people's needs. Extractor hoods have no role here: they are loud and ineffective, and intrude into the field of vision. Furthermore, they limit design options when planning a new kitchen. Willi Bruckbauer's vision was to create an effective vapour extraction system which at the same time satisfies the highest demands in terms of technology and aesthetics. Constant experimentation and discovery led to the creation of an innovative system which draws off cooking vapour more effectively than was previously possible. The work paid off with prestigious prizes and awards such as the "Deutsche Gründerpreis", "365 Places in the Land of Ideas", the "red dot product design award 2012" and "Plus X Award Product of the Year 2013".
The story so far
BORA is a young company that, despite its youth, is already making history. This rapid development began when Willi Bruckbauer developed and patented his first distinctive cooktop extractor system in 2006: the BORA Professional. In the following year, he founded BORA Lüftungstechnik GmbH, with one member of staff.
In 2008, not only was the BORA Professional cooktop extractor launched onto the market, but also the BORA Professional gas cooktop and a Tepan stainless steel grill. At the same time, development started on the induction and ceramic cooktops. At this point, with two members of staff, the company also started exporting to Belenux, Austria and South Tirol. In 2009, the company received the "365 Places in the Land of Ideas" award. The spotlight was now on Switzerland, with the market there being developed for the first time. The BORA team grew to three members of staff, who were now also responsible for providing planning support to trade customers.
2010 was a year of major changes – and another award. Now with six employees, the company moved to new offices; the BORA Classic was launched, and BORA Lüftungstechnik GmbH received the Deutsche Gründerpreis entrepreneurship award.
In the year that followed, BORA continued its dynamic expansion: 15 permanent members of staff ensured ongoing development of the product portfolio. 2012 could be described as the year of international development. Export activities were stepped up, leading to the foundation of national subsidiaries in Austria and Australia. Consequently, BORA also made its first appearance to an international audience at the prestigious Eurocucina trade fair in Milan. BORA Classic received the red dot product design award, expansion of the product portfolio continued, and all 27 employees had their hands full satisfying the constantly increasing demand for the innovative BORA cooktop extractors.
In the sixth year of the company's history, this high pace continued: the all-in-one BORA Basic system was launched onto the market and, from a standing start, received the Plus X Award for Product of the Year 2013. As in every previous year, the product portfolio was expanded – as was the staff, now numbering 47 in total. So much growth gave rise to a pressing need to relocate: BORA moved to new headquarters in Bavaria, at the foot of the Alps, and opened its own training centre for trade customers and fitters.

The end of the extractor hood...
...is the beginning of more freedom, beauty,
functionality and efficiency without any ifs or buts.
That is BORA's vision.
